Do you know the properties of lavender essential oil?
For insect bites
just a few drops applied directly to the affected area are enough to soothe the itching from an insect bite, a jellyfish sting, or the discomfort caused by a stinging plant.
For muscle and rheumatic pain, headaches, stiff neck, and sunburn
dilute a few drops of lavender essential oil in olive oil or, even better, in sweet almond oil and gently massage the affected area.
For superficial scratches, burns, or minor wounds
apply a few drops to the wound… it is an excellent healing agent!
For middle ear inflammation
dip a cotton swab in olive oil and add 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil, then gently apply it to the affected area. Lavender soothes pain and reduces inflammation.
For cystitis and fungal infections
perform local washes by diluting 4-5 drops of lavender essential oil in water, to which you have added 1 tablespoon of baking soda. If available, you can also add 1 drop of tea tree oil.
To prevent lice
massage the nape of the neck and the area behind the ears with a few drops of pure lavender essential oil. Do not rinse.
For colds, coughs, and pollen allergies
pour a few drops of lavender essential oil into a bowl of boiling water and cover your head with a cloth. Perform steam inhalations, breathing in the water vapor. To help children sleep when they have a cold, pour a few drops of lavender essential oil onto a handkerchief and rub it on their pillow before putting them to bed.
For a relaxing bath
pour a few drops of essential oil into the bathwater and add 2 tablespoons of baking soda. It is an excellent remedy for damaged skin or fungal infections and for relieving stress by relaxing the nerves. You can also use it for children’s baths, adding 1 tablespoon of rice starch to the water.
As an after-sun or refreshing treatment
mix 20 drops of lavender essential oil with 250 ml of natural water (preferably thermal water). Pour the mixture into a new, clean plastic spray bottle, then spray over the entire body. Store in the refrigerator and remember to shake well before each use.
Scrub
combine a few drops of lavender essential oil with coarse salt, then massage the affected area with circular movements… this scrub will give you smooth and fragrant skin!
Foot bath
pour into a basin of warm water 1 drop of peppermint oil, 1 drop of eucalyptus oil, 3 drops of lavender oil, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Soak your feet for 15 minutes. Complete the treatment by massaging your feet with moisturizing cream mixed with 2 drops of lavender essential oil.
For oily hair or dandruff
rinse your hair after shampooing with a solution prepared with mineral water, the juice of half a lemon, and 10 drops of lavender essential oil. To keep those pesky lice away from your children’s hair: massage the child’s hairline, above the ears and behind the nape, with a few drops of pure lavender essential oil.
To fragrance your home
pour 1 drop of essential oil onto light bulbs, taking care that the essential oil does not come into contact with the electrical part, or pour 1 drop onto special terracotta rings to be applied to the base of the bulbs. The relaxing fragrance of lavender, thanks to the heat of the bulb, will gently diffuse throughout the room. Alternatively, you can add a few drops of oil to the water trays of radiators (1 drop per square meter of home). To fragrance the rooms of your home naturally, without chemical deodorizers, you can also take a few lavender stalks, break them into pieces in a bowl, add 7-8 drops of lavender essential oil, and light them with a match. When the flame goes out, spirals of smoke will rise, as with incense sticks, fragrancing the room with the delicate and subtle scent of lavender. Another simple and natural method to fragrance your home is to heat coarse salt in a non-stick pan and pour a few drops of lavender essential oil over it once the flame is turned off. Then transfer the scented salt to a bowl and leave it in the center of a room. The lavender aroma will diffuse slowly, leaving each room delicately fragranced.
Infusion
pour one teaspoon of dried lavender angustifolia flowers into each 250 ml cup of boiling water. Let steep for 20 minutes, then strain and drink. Lavender infusion has pronounced diuretic and calming properties.
To fragrance your car
place dried lavender flowers in your car’s ashtray and pour a few drops of essential oil over them.
To fragrance your linens
pour a few drops of lavender essential oil onto dried flowers enclosed in a linen sachet and place it in the wardrobe to fragrance linens and keep moths away. You can use lavender distilled water to fragrance clothes for ironing, diluting it with regular tap water. To fragrance laundry, just a few drops poured directly into the fabric softener compartment of your washing machine will suffice.
Homemade lavender detergent: would you like to try?
you will need: half a liter of water; flowering lavender spikes; 8-10 drops of lavender essential oil; fresh rosemary; half a lemon; 2 tablespoons of baking soda
Procedure: Bring the water to a boil, then turn off the heat. Immerse the lavender spikes, essential oil drops, and rosemary in the boiling water. Let rest for approximately 20 minutes. Strain and then add the juice of half a lemon and the baking soda. Store the detergent thus obtained in the refrigerator in a spray bottle. Use it for bathroom surfaces, kitchen surfaces, or floors. It is a sanitizing and deodorizing product. It keeps for 1 week.
Homemade lavender soap
you will need: Marseille soap, lavender honey, water as needed, lavender essential oil, lavender flowers, cookie cutters or ice cube molds, extra virgin olive oil.
PROCEDURE: Grease the cookie cutters or ice cube molds with extra virgin olive oil if you want to obtain smaller soap bars. Grate the Marseille soap with a coarse grater and place it in a small pot. Then melt it in a double boiler, adding a little water and 1 tablespoon of lavender honey to make your soap more nourishing. Stir vigorously. Once melted and then cooled, incorporate a few drops of lavender essential oil. If desired, you can also add dried flowers to the mixture, which you will then pour into the molds. The molds should be placed in the refrigerator for an entire night. The following morning, remove the soap bars from the molds and place them on a clean cloth to dry completely. You can tie lavender stems around them and transform your soap bars into original place cards, or drill them using a point and create, with string, a garland of scented soap bars to hang in your bathroom.
